Impacts & Projects

  • Dream it.

FAKED was officially launched as a business in Aug 2024, however, we had actually been working on community projects since the end of 2022. What started meeting up to chat all things work, which quickly turned into teaching each other for colour, styling and new products. Eventually, we realised that we wanted to help so much more than just ourselves.

  • 'One for the Stylists'

Talking about Hairstylists being an integral part of the community, its something we recognise wholly. Absolutely adore our beloved peers but also see a deep need to teach Stylists what we know about spirituality, confidence, effective communication and self-care. If Stylists are not looking after their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing then how can they really effectively service others in their communities.

Enter ‘One for the Stylists’ our very first workshop as FAKED. Its aim was to give Sylists tips on getting organised, emotionally regulated

    and inspired.

We started the workshop off with a cacao ceremony/meditation. We spoke on the importance of Friendship in the industry. We gave our best tips on how we stay digitally organised. We went through our process on how we reduce our anxiety when salon life or life-life is feeling overwhelming - this is hugely important to us because we spent years struggling and had to figure it out alone, if we can help one Salon Owner or Stylist with our breathing technique, our 5 senses trick or introducing them to energetic cleansing then we will have succeeded. ‘Community’ isn’t just clients, its also our industry colleagues.

  • Next Generation

From being behind the chair and imparting styles, colours, shapes and ‘of course, some spiritual wisdom with a little palo santo smoke for good measure -We also discovered that we are pretty fine and dandy with speaking to groups. Yes, we get so nervous that it makes us feel sick, to our stomachs but pushing through our comfort zone to deliver effective tips, tricks and knowledge is part of why we make such a good impression.

That’s where our morning to Confey College Community School came in this year. A school that is local to Siobhan in Leixlip. We were asked to give a talk on becoming Hairdressers but we thought ‘nah, as hairdressers we have so much more to give’

The teens got a talk about how great hairdressing is, but also tips on confidence, grounding, recognising anxiety, introducing yourself, scalp care and hygiene.

As Hairdressers we are a fountain of knowledge and are key figures in communities.

  • Boho Bliss

A hairstyling course with a difference - it wasn’t only technique based, it was a journey of Hair, Heart & Soul. As always we started the day with a little grounding to get everyone in the mindframe of learning. The presentation for the course started with ‘owning your introduction’ , because that sets the tone for a clients styling appointment. We moved on to ‘the art of reading clients’ - and yes, we get THAT deep on our courses. In order to give a truly great service you have got to be able to communicate with your client. And, that involves Active Listening, Self Awareness, Matching their Energy and some Emotional Validation. The bottom line is: we want our students to feel that they can make their appointments for their clients about more than just hair, because we know thats what builds a loyal clientele. Apart from all of the client connection we did in this course we also had hands-on technique learning too.

We included everything from digital moodboard making to get inspired. Where ‘boho’ came from, it’s rise, fall and revival.

And we included, applying hair into braids, tinsel application and removal, french, dutch and fishatail plaits, plus waving, prepping and fine tuning the hair. This course was our first styling course and we can’t wait to hold it again.

  • Festival Mná

A little background for ya’ll, Siobhan is Autistic and has 3 children 2 of which are special needs. Jessica is Dyslexic and struggles with academia her whole life. Standing in front of a crowd shouldn't come naturally to them. A huge problem in the Hairdressing industry is there's not enough education around effective communication. In order to help remedy this, Siobhan and Jessica figured that if they took the time to educate some clients, then that may help start a positive change in the industry. At Festival Mná, they spoke about the importance of clear communication in consultation. They provided the attendees with a Consultation Checklist that they could bring to the salon. This checklist was to make sure that the attendees had adequate information and comfort for their appointment, making the experience more enjoyable for them. And if it's more enjoyable for them, it's more enjoyable for their stylist or salon, because it may reduce complaints. Most salons are in local communities and our goal is to reach those communities and raise the vibration of how salons/stylists are seen through talking to clients about taking some of the responsibility of communication. The more educated our collective clientele is , the more at ease the industry will flow.

  • Dublin Simon Community

We did a charity day for the Womens Division of the Dublin Simon Community in Oct 2023 - we invited them into Bluepeacockk Hair Design ( Jess’ hair studio) and did a day worth of Haircuts, Styling and lots of haircare advice for at home. We put together Goody bags for the the ladies to take home with a complete home care kit including Shampoo, Conditioner , Hairbrush and scrunchie. We also made sure there was tea/coffee and treats available throughout the day. We had a great day doing it - and were so happy when the Dublin Simon Community asked us would we be interested in doing it again for 2024 - to which we said ”Hell Yeah We Will”

“We’re reimagining hair education -one ritual, one community, one conversation at a time”
